Barcelona Aerial: Path-Traced 3D City Map · Framed Matte Poster
Every building in this map is real. The volumes come from the Ajuntament de Barcelona's own 3D city model — 114,715 separately modelled bodies, each rooftop sitting at a surveyed elevation — standing on Spain's two-metre PNOA terrain model. The light is not a filter: the whole city was path traced, the same technique film studios use, with the shadows computed ray by ray from a sun standing 60° above the horizon.
Here the same computed light falls on the real city — the ICGC's Catalan orthophoto draped over the 3D model. The Eixample's interior courtyards show their real gardens and their real solar panels, Ciutat Vella goes terracotta, Montjuïc goes green, and the Mediterranean closes the bottom of the disc in its own colour. Path-traced shadows drop into the chamfered crossings between them. Every block casts the shadow its true height earns.
