Prague: 3D City Map
Every building in this map is real. The roofs come from IPR Praha's official 3D city model — the survey the Prague Institute of Planning and Development keeps for the whole capital — set on DMR 5G, the Czech national laser-scanned terrain model from ČÚZK. The light is not a filter: the whole city was path traced, the same technique film studios use, with the shadows computed ray by ray from a sun standing 60° above the horizon.
Prague is a city the river built, and you can read it here. The Vltava swings through the disc from north to south, and the two banks answer each other: on the east, the tight medieval weave of Staré Město and the grand blocks of Josefov and Nové Město; on the west, the palaces of Malá Strana giving way to the green rise of Petřín and the Castle slopes, where the ground itself lifts out of the built fabric. Střelecký and Slovanský islands sit mid-current. This is one of the hillier cities in the series, so terrain and building share the shadow work — every block casts the shadow its true height earns.
