Zurich: 3D City Map

$617.73 MXN

Every building in this map is real. The roofs come from the City of Zurich's own LoD2 model, published by its surveying office (GeoZ) — surveyed roof planes, not extruded boxes — standing on swissALTI3D, swisstopo's high-resolution national terrain model. The light is not a filter: the whole city was path traced, the same technique film studios use, with the shadows computed ray by ray from a sun standing 60° above the horizon.

This is the steepest city in the series, and here the terrain genuinely does some of the work. Lake Zürich fills the base of the disc; the Limmat leaves it and threads north through the Altstadt, the medieval core straddling the water, with the Sihl joining from the south-west. The ground climbs away from the lake on both sides, so the blocks on the slopes catch the sun differently from the ones on the valley floor, and the great sheds of the Hauptbahnhof open the north. Every block casts the shadow its true height earns.

Printed on museum-quality matte paper in an Ayous wood frame.
