Berlin: Path-Traced 3D City Map · Framed Matte Poster
Every building in this map is real. The roofs come from Berlin's official ALKIS LoD2 model — 346,159 surveyed surfaces inside a two-kilometre disc, real roof planes with real pitches, not extruded boxes. They stand on the city's own one-metre ATKIS terrain model. The light is not a filter: the whole city was path traced, the same technique film studios use, with the shadows computed ray by ray from a sun standing 60° above the horizon.
Mitte is almost perfectly flat — 22 metres across the built fabric — which leaves the buildings to do all the work, and Berlin has the buildings for it. The Fernsehturm stands 253 metres above the disc floor, by a wide margin the tallest thing in this series, and it lays a shadow across Alexanderplatz that nothing else here can match. The Spree loops through the middle around Museumsinsel; the great Wilhelmine blocks read as closed courtyards, each one a ring of roof around a dark well. Every block casts the shadow its true height earns.
