Amsterdam Aerial — Path-Traced 3D City Map · Framed Matte Poster
Every building in this map is real. The roofs come from 3D BAG, the Dutch national LoD2.2 building model built by TU Delft — 158,211 surveyed roof surfaces, standing on AHN4's half-metre laser-scanned terrain. The light is not a filter: the whole city was path traced, the same technique film studios use, with the shadows computed ray by ray from a sun standing 60° above the horizon.
Here the same computed light falls on the real city — the 2024 national orthophoto draped over the 3D model, so you get the actual roofs, the actual water, the actual trees in leaf, with true path-traced shadows dropped into the streets between them. The canal belt's arcs, the barges on the IJ, the red pantiles of the old centre: photographic, but lit by physics rather than by whatever the aircraft happened to fly under. Every block casts the shadow its true height earns.
